B-CON: Bleeding Control for the Injured
Course OverviewWhile basic First-Aid skills are important, there are a specifc subset of first-aid skills called BCON, short for Bleeding Control. As you can see in the sidebar, even the White House recognizes the importance of getting this critical training out to as many people as possible. In support of this Department of Homeland Security initiative, Cascade has implemented 2 versions of Bleed Control training as well as incorporated a short informational module that is included in all of our course offerings.
RVESCUE BCON offerings include:
Course Objectives
To help prepare EMS personnel for safer ambulance operations.
Topics
Awareness Course
Bleed Control training is relatively new to the market. With the advent of the Department of Homeland Security Stop the Bleed Campaign and key learning from Active Shooter and Improvised Explosive Device (IED) events, there is a genuine need to get the general population prepared to provide these life-saving techniques as they truly become first responders in their communities and their families. For these individuals we recommend adding a BCON Awareness module to classes offered in your organization.
Technician Course
There has been much misinformation over the years about the use of tourniquets (TQ), but combat casualty experience from the battlefield changed everything and with it, a revisit of treating other acute traumatic injuries. For pre-hospital professionals and those in law enforcement a comprehensive BCON Technician course is appropriate.

Techinian - Any Emergency Response official who may be called upon to respond to a mass casualty incident

Awareness: 1 hour
