EMS Response to the Large Scale Incidents: LEVEL 1 Awareness
Course Overview
This course was developed by the Incident Suport and Operational Planning Unit (ISOP) at the UMDNJ Center for BioDefense, and has received approval for Department of Homeland Security training funds.
Course Objectives
To help prepare EMS personnel to better respond to and operate at a Large Scale Incident.
Topics
This instructor led entry level program prepares the Emergency Medical Services provider for response to a “high profile” or large scale incident. Topics to be included are:
All EMS first responders, new and experienced supervisors and officers. Staff assigned to an EMS specific Incident Management Team.

- Scene Safety
- Communications
- Triage of multiple casualties
- Treatment of patients in the MCI and differences to normal procedures
- Transportation of the injured
